Podcast Spotlights

Podcast Spotlight: Flight 785

Welcome aboard Flight 785, which is scheduled to touch down in 30 to 40 minutes. While in the sky, settle into your first-class seat and hear from uno all-star and host K Jones as he discusses pop culture and whatever else comes to mind with guests each week. He is generous enough to share the flight plan at the top of each episode, so you can easily find the episode that is right for you. With weird news and amazing sound effects, Jones has something for everyone.

At a time when travel is limited, it is so nice to put your headphones in and hop on a quick flight around the world. Flight 785 will take you for a journey through cursing parrots, dangerous elk, Drake’s worst party foul, and so much more. There is genuine chemistry between Jones and his guests, and his wife even joins him periodically! If you need a break from bad news and are into the bizarre, this podcast is for you.

We were fortunate to talk with Jones about the podcast, how they differentiate from other podcasts, and their future plans in podcasting. See below for our full Q&A.

DISCOVER PODS: How’d you get into podcasting?

JONES: I’ve always had a love for radio. The allure of picking up a microphone and speaking to the masses was something I’d always wanted to do. After I got out of the military, I decided to make my own show.

DISCOVER PODS: In your own words, why should listeners tune in to Flight 785?

JONES: Due to the current climate of the world, there are a lot of people living with fear and depression. FLIGHT 785 gives people a break… a time to sit back, laugh, and chill. We talk about interesting news stories and topics that will make you laugh, and some topics that will educate you.

DISCOVER PODS: What kind of feedback have you heard from your listeners?

JONES: People love the show, especially the banter between myself and my co host. They say, “It’s like you two are sitting with us in our house having a conversation.”

DISCOVER PODS: Describe your recording set up? What equipment are you using?

JONES: I record in my house. I use a Rodecaster Pro podcast production studio with two SHURE PGA48 microphones.

DISCOVER PODS: What’s the biggest challenge you face as an indie podcaster?

JONES: Getting the show noticed. There are a ton of indie podcasts that have few plays not because they aren’t good, but because they have little visibility.

DISCOVER PODS: Where do you want to take your podcast?

JONES: Worldwide.

DISCOVER PODS: What other podcasts are you listening to now?

JONES: Conan O’brien Needs A Friend, Blk Pod Collective, Rosenberg Radio.

DISCOVER PODS: Anything else you’d like to add?

JONES: The name “FLIGHT 785” is a nod to all the people who supported me in the past up to now. 785 is the area code in which I grew up, which is in north-central Kansas. When it comes to podcasting, “no matter how you feel, get up, dress up, show up, and never give up.” Follow FLIGHT 785 on IG, Twitter, Tiktok, Snapchat: @flight785
