Podcast Spotlights

Podcast Spotlight: GraphicAudio Story Podcast (GASP)

It feels like audio drama podcasts are finally getting their deserving respect. We covered a list of some of our favorite audio drama podcasts, but like with all podcasts, more are coming into market every day. GraphicAudio, an audiobook company, took their business to the next logical step by adding similar themed podcasts to their repertoire. With GraphicAudio Story Podcast (GASP), they have a serialized audio drama that covers the wide array of genres you’d expect to see in a podcast including fantasy and scifi.

Already with three seasons under their belt, the GASP team has found their form for a successful audio drama podcast.

We were fortunate enough to meet Anji Cornette, Vice President at GraphicAudio, to discuss the podcast, their goals, and the challenges they face. See the full Q&A below.

Discover Pods: How’d you get into podcasting?

Anji: We thought that since GraphicAudio® A Movie in Your Mind® is audio entertainment, it felt like a synergistic thing to do – audio podcasting. Podcasting is a great platform to showcase our style of audio entertainment.

DP: In your own words, why should listeners tune into GASP?

Anji: GraphicAudio Story Podcast GASP™ brings stories to life with our unique way of story telling with a full cast, a narrator guiding you, cinematic music and immersive sound effects. We have a variety of genres from Fantasy, SciFi, Horror, Mystery to Western action adventures. Each work day, we bring you a new episode of GASP, sometimes in episodic style and sometimes we may feature a short novella over an episode or two.

DP: Audio drama podcasts are quickly on the rise, what do you think are the driving forces behind this?

Anji: Our culture is constantly multi-tasking and one can often find themselves doing a routine or mundane task, whether it is driving, or data entry or gardening, etc. Audio drama podcasts would be like watching a movie or your favorite television series but you only have to use your ears and part of your brain to listen. Our fans often tell us we are a great way for them to pass the time so much so that when they are done with a task they continue to listen to hear what happens next, even if it means sitting in their car parked in the driveway at home or at work.

DP: What’s the most difficult part of podcasting for you?

Anji: I think we were nervous about making the jump from 1 episode per week in the Fall to going daily during the weekday work week in January. However, we did it and we believe the frequency has helped grow our audience.

DP: What podcasts are you listening to now?

Anji: We love listening to podcasts such as WRITING EXCUSES, MR CREEPY PASTA STORYTIME, TANIS, RABBITS, TANNIS, FATMAN on BATMAN, RABBITS, and ANNA FARIS IS UNQUALIFIED.

DP: Anything else you’d like to add?

Anji: We are very excited about being able to reach a whole new audience who loves audio dramas and would enjoy our GraphicAudio® A Movie in Your Mind®.
