If you’ve read Discover Pods for awhile, you know we’ve Spotlighted our fair share of nerd-focused podcasts, however, Superstitious and Cowardly, is our first Batman podcast! Superstitious and Cowardly focuses on the Batman comics, starting with the Detective Comics 27. From there they tackle each comic book and event in a chronological order.

As podcasts continue to grow because the barrier of entry remains miniscule, niche podcasts such as Superstitious and Cowardly are not only popular, but thriving. I got a chance to speak with John, host of Superstitious and Cowardly, and though he lists growing an audience as one of their greatest challenges as indie podcasters, they still have a loyal following.

Below is my full Q&A with John about his favorite Batman actor, why he chose to podcast, and the Batman storyline that’s iching for a movie adaptation. Take a look!

Discover Pods: What’s your podcast about?

‪John: A podcast that takes a look at Batman from 1939 to today. Looking at the mythos and current views of classic DC characters.‬

DP: What’s unique about your podcast?

‪John: We focus on Batman comics starting with Detective Comics 27, and while we may cherry pick issues we try to go over events chronologically instead of jumping around.

DP: Why did you choose to podcast?

‪John: We felt it was the best way to covey what we want to say. We love podcasts and it felt like the right medium to use.

DP: Which Batman actor was your favorite on-screen portrayal?

‪John: We’re split between Michael Keaton, and Ben Affleck, but honestly Kevin Conroy will always be our Batman

DP: Does your podcast solely focus on the Batman comics or do you delve into other mediums as well?

‪John: Our big focus is Batman including Detective Comics, World’s Finest etc. We occasionally do a round up episode of what was going on with other DC characters at the time period we’ve recently covered.

DP: What’s the one Batman storyline that you think needs to be adapted for film or TV?

‪John: Venom is a great Denis O’Neil story dealing with addiction.

DP: What’s the biggest challenge you face as an indie podcaster?

‪John: Gaining listeners and social interactions. This show is a hobby for the two of us, but we’d love to talk about this world of characters with others.

DP: What type of equipment do you record with?

‪John: We use a laptop with Audacity, and two Knox xlr microphones hooked up to a Behringer Xenyx 1002USB mixer.

DP: What are your top 5 favorite podcasts?

‪John: In no particular order:
1. The Greatest Generation
2. The Flop House
3. Godzilla Podwar Hour
4. My Brother My Brother and Me
5. Beef and Dairy Podcast

DP: Anything else you’d like to add?

‪John: We’re just two guys that like talking about comics that have been out for awhile so we’re normally spoiler free.

DP: Where can listeners find you?

‪John:
