Welcome to your podcast about addiction and recovery, hosted by Ted Izydor, who has twenty years of experience in clinical therapy as a mental health and addiction counselor. Ted is compassionate, empathetic and an active listener – all traits of a great interviewer. Everyone’s addiction story is unique, and Ted honors this through long-form interviews each episode. He speaks to pastors, comedians, yoga teachers and guests from all walks of life. Each conversation is candid and helpful as interviewees share their experiences with addiction, rock bottom, and recovery.

Ted and his guests share stories of relapse, mindfulness, recovery yoga, and more. While the topics can be heavy, the podcast is ultimately uplifting and hopeful, acknowledging that everyone is deserving of recovery. Full Potential, Now! shares knowledge in hopes that others can seek more fulfilling, healthier, and happier lives. Recovery Nation fans can catch this podcast about once a month, but it has a large back catalogue for new listeners to explore. For more information on addiction, withdrawal, and recovery, read Ted’s articles on fullpotentialnow.org.

We were fortunate to talk with Izydor about the podcast, how they differentiate from other podcasts, and their future plans in podcasting. See below for our full Q&A.

DISCOVER PODS: How’d you get into podcasting?

IZYDOR: I have been working in the addiction/mental health field for 20 years and see how the system breaks down for people with long waits to get in to see a therapist or start a program or have no way to pay for it. I grew up on the southside of Milwaukee low income working class with both of my parents working in factories all their lives. I was educated big time, but am still for the common person. I wanted to share my knowledge and experience with all people, even those that can not afford it to offer them a message of hope and inspiration.

DISCOVER PODS: In your own words, why should listeners tune in to Full Potential?

IZYDOR: I deliver research/evidenced based information that is based on what works in the field of addiction/mental health and interview guests that can shine light on that. I don’t make a bunch of stuff up and try to sell people quick fixes. Inspire people to reach their full potential. To overcome their addiction and see that there can be a better life.

DISCOVER PODS: What kind of feedback have you heard from your listeners?

IZYDOR: Very informative and inspiring.

DISCOVER PODS: Describe your recording set up? What equipment are you using?

IZYDOR: Mostly record off Skype, use garage band and my producers set up to mix it down and use a use a Blue Yetti Mic.

DISCOVER PODS: What’s the biggest challenge you face as an indie podcaster?

IZYDOR: Getting a wider reach. People that hear like it. We want to impact as many people as possible.

DISCOVER PODS: Where do you want to take your podcast?

IZYDOR: We would like to reach a bigger audience and have a bigger impact on making people’s lives better. To give them the resources to really reach their Full Potential. No matter what the circumstance, there is still possibiiity for change.

DISCOVER PODS: What other podcasts are you listening to now?

IZYDOR: Death, Sex and Money. This American Life, Criminal, Sober Guy, Sobberish, Shair Podcast

DISCOVER PODS: Anything else you’d like to add?

IZYDOR: We are going to start promoting our big 3 part series called the California Addiction Diaries. I teamed up with Hollywood producers/directors Steve Balderson (independent film award winning) and Jimmy Cohen (director, writer). Steve interviews 3 California people who struggled with addiction (punk rock band member, hollywood actress, Californian). Their names have been changed to protect their identities. I am part of the interviews as a professional as Steve talks about what it was like to interview them and learn about their lives and addiction. Super stoked on this series. We will be releasing it in July and promoting it for a few weeks before. It has been pitched to Death, Sex and Money. Waiting to hear back. Would love to be spotlighted close to release date.
