Podcasts do many things for different people. Some want to laugh, some want to learn something new, some want a recap of current events, and some want to be inspired. More to Life with Faith and Lois aims to be part of this latter group, inspire their listeners to become better people and live more fulfilling lives.

With this goal in mind, More to Life with Faith and Lois succeeds. The episodes are endearing and wholesome, helpful and encouraging.

I got a chance to share some emails with the hosts of More to Life with Faith and Lois, the titular Faith and Lois. See below for our interview and get inspired!

Discover Pods: How did you decide to get into podcasting?

LOIS: Faith and I had been talking for some time about the best way to get out a message to people that they don’t have to remain paralyzed when life’s events blindside you. Seems we face so many blocks in life and they trap us, when there is hope that’s within reach. With Faith’s background as an entrepreneur/therapist and mine as a broadcaster/life coach, I asked Faith if she’d be interested in us sharing our passion for people in the form of a podcast. When she agreed, I went online to figure out what I needed to put together a studio and did just that in my basement before we recorded a single thing. And on our first try, we realized this is what we are meant to be doing!

DP: More To Life aims to inspire listeners. How do you accomplish this?

FAITH & LOIS: Through shared life experiences and the discovery of our own the journeys. Our goal is to speak the truth, often with our own personal stories, without giving pat answers to our listeners. We offer them nuggets of insight where they have the opportunity to discover and reflect on what ignites inspiration within them. We are all going through so many of the same life issues and we hope listeners feel they are sitting in on a conversation where they can observe how we navigate our lives. We are far from perfect, but we are afloat. And that’s a very good thing.

DP: What are you hoping your listeners come away with?

FAITH: A curiosity to discovering their true identity. A new perspective by hearing joy and respect in our interaction with each other. Hope and encouragement, not just “positive thinking.” And finally that there are ways of changing how we all think and react to life’s circumstances.

DP: What’s your recording and editing schedule like?

LOIS: We get together every other week to scope out three shows. So far, we’ve chosen to stick to questions and we outline the gist of the three shows. Then we get together and record all three, with a break for lunch. We have very different styles, and that’s why I think our conversation flows so well. We look at a clock when we start and keep going until we reach 30 minutes. At some point, I edit the pieces and upload them to our website and Blubrry, which pushes them out on a variety of sites for our Tuesday release.

DP: How has listener feedback been?

FAITH & LOIS: Now that we’ve released 10 episodes, we are seeing more traction and a growing number of unique listeners. The podcasts are stimulating new thought, and we are getting comments that people area finding a greater interest in reflecting and contemplating the fullness of life. Others tell us they are implementing our message and have expressed positive outcome in doing so. We are in the middle of a #moretolifewithwordgames campaign, created by our brilliant Marketing Maven, Kristen Kidd. Every day in March we are releasing a 60-second video featuring an adjective that can be used in the sentence, “How will you be _______ today?” This is a game changer in terms of social media connection, which we hope will lead to more audience for our podcasts.

DP: What’s the hardest challenge for you as an indie podcaster?

LOIS: Probably trying to determine where to ‘find’ our audience. Having been a broadcaster, I used to fit into a framework and the audience was measurable and just there. Now we are entrepreneurs in this space, listening to what others are doing and blazing our own path, picking up steam as we go. The fun is that everything is measurable, so we can track whether we’re going in the right direction. So far, we believe we’re doing just that!

DP: What podcasts do you listen to in your spare time?

LOIS: Not as many as I would l like to be listening to. But here are a few that have recommended to me and I’ve enjoyed: Heroine: Women’s Creative Leadership, Confidence, Wisdom, Help Me Be Me, Esther Perel, This American Life and Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations.

DP: Anything else you’d like to add?

FAITH & LOIS: We want our tagline, there is so much more to life, to stick. Beyond our podcast, we plan to host workshops (beginning in April) to help people who feel blocked break through the barriers that are holding them back and discover their true identity.
