PODCAST CURATOR’S NAME: Sara-Mae Tuson, senior podcast producer of Fable Gazers

WHY THIS THEME?: Over the course of researching for season 1: The Sugar Baby Confessionals, I listened to a lot of podcasts on this theme – many were a little shallow for me, and I wanted open, informed discussion. This selection is the best, most brilliant work I found on this titillating topic.

MONDAY: Good Sex, Bad Sex – Being a Sugar Baby – 32 minutes

Bibi Lynch and Miranda Kane are really excellent hosts: Bibi’s a BBC broadcaster & journalist who’s written on sex & relationships for all the top UK mags. Miranda is an ex-sex worker turned comedienne. They’re hilarious, knowledgeable, and the podcast clocks in around the 30-minute mark every time.

TUESDAY: Sex with Strangers –Sex and the Amish – 100 minutes

This fabulously intellectual podcast subverts your expectations – host Chris Sowa interviews people from all over the world, including academics studying sexual behaviour – I’m always better informed after listening, and I love his deeply considered approach. 

WEDNESDAY: Why Won’t You Date Me? With Nicole Byer – High School Dating (w/ Cameron Esposito) – 56 minutes

You’d have to have a heart of stone not to love comedienne Nicole Byer, who has been charting her brutally honest, hilariously rude search for a partner since 2017. She might not have succeeded on a personal level, but she’s won my heart for sure. Her guests are friends, people she’s dated (she always asks why it didn’t work out which can be deliciously awkward), and fellow comedians. I particularly loved this one with Cameron Esposito because she’s a delight.

THURSDAY: Savage Lovecast – It’s the S&M Show – 52 minutes

A stalwart of the podcast scene, Dan Savage hosts the Grandaddy of sex advice podcasts. If you’re a vanilla person, like me, prepare to be shocked to your core.

FRIDAY: Alone: A Love Story – Not If, How – 20 minutes

Michelle Parise is bringing out a book based on this hit Canadian podcast, yet I don’t hear people talking about it. It’s a wonderfully poignant, sometimes painfully raw memoir of her divorce and subsequent dating life.  With a background in radio, the production is great too.
