Growing up, on Christmas Eve, my cousins, my brother and I would sit together to watch a laptop screen that showed Santa traveling around the globe– on the Santa Tracker. It absolutely captivated us. Now, kids have even more direct access to Father Christmas all season long—through his podcast.

Santa’s Podcast is releasing daily episodes through Christmas for children all around the world. They started on Dec. 1.

Greg Leader, who helps produce Santa’s Podcast, connected me with Delph Elf, the CEO at Santa’s Workshop to further discuss Santa’s venture into audio. Elf handles communications outside of the workshop for the man in charge.

“I encouraged Santa to start a podcast because he receives millions of letters from children across the world during the busy holiday season and it is impossible – even for him – to respond to each one,” said Elf. “I told him with a podcast he could answer questions, share stories and deliver positive messages to children each day leading up until Christmas.”

Elf explained that once Christmas Day has passed, the volume of letters that Santa is receiving on a regular basis decreases and he is able to answer each letter individually. Thus, the necessity to have the podcast run Dec. 1stthrough the 25th.

The show includes guests like some of the elves in the workshop, holiday musicians and Mrs. Claus.

Elf said his roles is in production and promotion. He has to help Santa get his voice out there. The art of podcasting is new to Santa.

“He’s more than 1,700 years old, so it takes him some time to adopt to newer forms of technology and media,” said Elf.

However, Elf explained that podcasts are not a new phenomenon at the North Pole at all. In fact, they are frequently played in the workshop.

“We elves have been listening to podcasts for some time now while making toys,” said Elf. “It really makes the workday go by so much quicker. There are a lot of Marc Maron fans in the workshop.”

Last year, Elf said that they tested a few episodes out to see what the response would be like. With downloads from all over the world, on every continent excepting Antartica, Elf said that they decided to do the podcast every day this holiday season.

Santa’s Podcast is entirely independent, without a network backing. “There aren’t any other podcasters in the North Pole. I believe we’re the only ones with WIFI up there,” said Elf.

The general goal of the podcast is for Santa to deliver kindness and warmth during this holiday season—something Elf said we can all use more of. Each episode, Santa delivers a positive message in addition to sharing “a few moments of holiday magic’. He will also answer important questions—ones he’s received on a repeat basis through Christmas letters over the years, such as: “how does he deliver presents in homes without chimneys?”

Elf said that Santa has noticed one problem of late that he hopes to rectify with his podcast.

“Unfortunately, Santa has seen too many people move from the nice list to the naughty list in recent years – both children and adults, alike,” said Elf. “He hopes that his podcast will help people to be kind and treat each other in the warm spirit of the holidays all year long – and not because of his lists or to get presents, but because it’s the right thing to do.”
